About Us
For the last 20 years Drs Peter de Bruijn has played an important role as a professional collector, registered appraiser, researcher and publicist on Indian, Himalayan, Islamic and Southeast Asian works of art.
In-depth experience and academic knowledge are gained through an educational background from the Kern Institute, Leiden University; field research in various South- and Southeast Asian countries and a professional background in the Asian departments of the British Museum in London and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Our expertise extends to Buddhist, Hindu, Jain or folk art from all Asian countries including Islamic art from the Near and Middle East. As an independent appraiser we have gained many years of practical experience and are hired by various collectors, museums and auction houses worldwide.

Appraisal
We provide appraisals of art, antiques and objects from Asia to clients with various valuation needs. We valuate for insurance, gift, divorce, investment, probate and family division and to charitable contribution.
Understanding the work of art, its history in an academical context and its current market is critical in appraisal processes. We employ the comprehensive knowledge of in-house, or external regarded experts to ensure each report produced is as reliable and extensively vetted as possible.
We can draw up valuation reports as a result of a visit, or online on the basis of high-resolution photos. We produce reports conform the TMV standards registered valuers or the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
Scientific dating
In addition to the traditional dating of works of art based on, for example, style, iconography, inscriptions and material, we collaborate with some trusted partners in the field of comprehensive authentication using Thermoluminescence (TL), X-Ray fluorescence (XRF), traditional X-Ray testing methods and carbon dating (C14).
For archaeological objects this often gives a very accurate dating of objects.

Wat taxeren wij?
Ons specialisme omvat alle Aziatische Kunst en Kunstvoorwerpen uit Zuid- en Zuidoost Azië, waaronder India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Tibet, Cambodja, Indonesië, Birma, Vietnam et cetera. Dit betreffen taxaties van Boeddhistische Kunst, Hindoeistische Kunst, Jain Kunst et cetera. Voor een taxatie Oost Aziatische kunst (bijv. China, Japan en Korea) kunt u ook contact met ons opnemen.
Verschillende taxatie Aziatische kunst
Na een echtscheiding of bij overlijden is het vaak noodzakelijk om de aanwezige kunst te laten taxeren, zodat de waarde ervan vastgesteld wordt en er op basis daarvan eventueel verdeeld kan worden. In verband met eventuele successiebelasting is het ook noodzakelijk om in het geval van overlijden de waarde vast te stellen.
Daarnaast taxeren wij zeer regelmatig onafhankelijk Aziatische kunst stukken met de wens om te laten veilen door grote en kleine (inter)nationale veilinghuizen en stukken in het aanbod van kunsthandelaren. Tevens onderzoeken wij in opdracht herkomst en de waarde van Aziatische kunststukken puur omdat kunst met een achterliggend verhaal voor velen nog kostbaarder is. Wie stelt die figuur nou eigenlijk voor en waarom juist die attributen? Is het een tempelfragment en waar zat het dan eigenlijk?
Ook voor notarissen, advocaten, executeurs-testamentair en belastingadviseurs die voor hun cliënten een officieel taxatierapport nodig hebben voor o.a. vermogensplanning, onderlinge verdeling en belastingadvies stellen wij een rapport taxatie Aziatische kunst op.
Taxatie Aziatische Kunst voor de verzekering
Verzekeringstaxaties worden veelal gedaan voor goederen waarvan de waarde in een winkel niet te achterhalen is bij verlies na brand of diefstal en waardoor de verzekerende instantie zonder extra aanvullende voorwaarden de vastgestelde waarde van het verloren gegane stuk uitkeert. Vaak stelt de verzekerende instantie een dergelijk rapport ook verplicht. Bij oude Aziatische kunst betreft het eigenlijk altijd een uniek object waardoor een taxatierapport onmisbaar is. De verzekerde waarde is de hoogste waarde die gehanteerd wordt: de uitkering moet zodanig zijn dat er op korte termijn een passende vervanging voor het verloren gegane object gekocht kan worden bij een gerenommeerde kunsthandel. Verzekeringstaxaties worden verricht onder artikel BW 7:960 Het rapport taxatie Aziatische Kunst dat opgesteld wordt is drie jaar rechtsgeldig.
Hoelang duurt een taxatie?
Dit is erg afhankelijk van het stuk en eventueel benodigd onderzoek om de exacte waarde te kunnen inschatten. Voorafgaand ontvangt u altijd van ons een concrete tariefopgave. Wij hanteren vaste marktconforme tarieven.
Hoe kunt u de deskundigheid inschatten van de taxateur?
Dat kunt u eigenlijk niet, het is niet voor niets een specialist. Sinds 2000 is taxateur een vrij beroep en is de wettelijke beëdiging van taxateurs in 2005 definitief komen te vervallen. Dat houdt in dat iedereen zich taxateur mag noemen van kunst en antiek. Door enkele taxateurs wordt de oude term 'beëdigd taxateur' nog steeds gehanteerd.
Een specialist herkent u aan diverse zaken waaronder een gedegen lijst van publicaties op het expertisegebied en op basis van referenties. Een aantal publicaties vindt u op onze website en uiteraard kunt u desgewenst een lijst van referenties aanvragen.
